Major In Advertising With A Minor In Marketing?
Uncategorized December 9th, 2009I’m looking to do both. I would be getting my Bachelor’s in Advertising. I have no formal job experience in either field. Obviously, any type of job I choose out of college is going to initially pay lower than someone whom has experience in the field. What would my typical salary be? Give rough but not too rough estimates in the field. My goal is to become a Advertising Manager. Can this be accomplished with no work experience? I do plan on also getting my master’s but that is later down the road.
Also, would a minor in Marketing be beneficial or should I double-major? How long would that take if I decided to double-major, etc.,
Thanks in advance.

In advertising as in most fields you need to start at the bottom and work your way up. When you say “advertising manager”, do you mean on the creative side, the account services side or on the media side? That is too vague. Either way though, right out of college, an assistant media buyer/planner or and assistant ae would probably make about $35-$50k, depending on the job. On the creative side if you do have a solid portfolio you could make slightly more.

You do of course, have to work your way up regardless. If you’d like to know what the area averages are for the position you expect to be in or hope to be in, try payscale.com I use it to make sure that I’m being paid comparably to others in my industry and in my state.
